Huzzizzle of the Realms - November 2016 UR News #amreading

M. Pax

The next Backworlds is almost here!

The first shot of a new war echoes through the galaxy. Craze has high hopes for what the alliance with an old enemy, the Foreworlds, will do to defeat a worse enemy, the Quassers.

The test of a highly-advanced weapon, created by the efforts of the alliance, pushes tensions over the brink, which kills thousands. To make it worse, the Foreworld ambassador is keeping secrets.

Conventional warfare against the Quassers isn’t working, and if the alliance ends, Craze has become the most hated man in the galaxy for nothing.

With nothing left to lose, Craze sets in motion one last chance for survival.

Renovating house for supernatural clients is easy. Saving the world? Not so much.
Here's the next in the thrilling urban fantasy series, Totem!

No one messes with Saskia Dorn’s family and gets away with it.

The same murderous shifters who had hunted her sister have attempted to steal a magical totem pole. Since the pieces are scattered across Alaska, Saskia, a polar bear shifter, takes her search to the tundra for any signs of the lost totems.

Instead she finds Sedge, the latest reincarnation of the old Inuit Bear god, who just happens to be the man who broke her heart.

They come across a small native village tormented by the Jinxioc, evil gnomes with an appetite for human flesh. Sedge declares he will rid the people of the menace, believing a totem token is nearby affecting the devils’ behavior. At his side, Saskia battles to save the tribesmen, but it could mean sacrificing herself.

So you want to own a spaceship? Here’s 3 pieces of advice. #SciFi Oh and win $40

So you want to own a spaceship? Here’s 3 pieces of advice.

1.         Be sure all the parts are there. Getting stranded on the starway is no joke. There are no tow trucks. If no one finds you quick, you’ll die.
2.         If you can’t drive it, make friends with a dang good pilot. Friends might be more understanding if you’re low on funds than a hire on.
3.         Whether flying for business or pleasure, stock your vessel with good vittles, drink, and company. Space is rather dull unless something or someone is trying to kill you.

These bits of advice certainly hold true in the Backworlds. Space is lonely and deadly. Keep that in mind when selecting your spacecraft from the lot.

Precipice, 6th Book in the Backworlds Series is Now Live! #SciFi To Lepper Where No One Has Leapt Before

To travel from star to star in science fiction, there has to be a device or engine that allows the starship to accelerate beyond light speeds. Otherwise, traveling between star systems isn't very feasible.

Star Wars has hyperdrive, Star Trek has warp engines, Stargate has a stargate, Farscape has a living ship that can starburst, and Babylon 5 has jump points.

Firefly inspired many elements in the Backworlds series, but not how my people travel. For one, Firefly never really said how they accelerated the ship or whether they were traveling between stars. Sometimes I had the impression they were traveling within one solar system. Shrug. Whatev. I needed a way to get my ships from star to star.

I borrowed from Babylon 5 and used an accelerator or 'jump points'. I call it the Lepper System. A ship can travel faster within the Lepper System than outside it.

My planets are all clumped in one arm of the galaxy, still the arm Earth is located in -- the Orion Arm -- and they're fairly close together. Humanity has colonized space in the Backworlds, but we haven't moved terribly far yet.

There's still a lot of wonder to discover... as the discovery of planets beyond our system reveals - planets made of diamonds, super Earths, planets more habitable than our own. Wouldn't it be marvelous to go there and see them? I think so. That's why I love writing stories set in space.

In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendants to survive in a harsh universe. This is the sixth book in the science fiction series, The Backworlds. A space opera adventure.

The Backworlds hang by a Quantum string, a thread about to snap. Annihilation is coming if Craze can’t stop it.

The genocidal alien he had trapped breaks free, destroying a ship belonging to the Backworlds’ oldest enemy, the Fo’wo’s. The murderous alien wants to overtake the galaxy. The Fo’wo’s want another war.

The Backworlds’ best chance to survive is to overcome a century of hate and forge an alliance with the Fo’wo’s. Because of his history with the alien, Craze is recruited to represent his people. Now he’s the most hated man in the galaxy.

The looming war will be a holocaust unless Craze can stop it, knowing salvation comes at a price.
