Colors of Christine

(Teen Titans, episode "Colors of Raven")

There are so many stories in my head. Tales in far off galaxies and adventures right in my backyard. One genre cannot contain them all, and if I tried, I'd burst apart into multi-colored shards. Because, you know, my imagination is in full technicolor.

Pink - the silly and over the top. Sarcastic fairies, furry superheroes, and talking toys.

Red - the horror. Splatters of blood, vicious battles, and terrifying monsters.

Violet - the sexy. Sweet romance, subtle seduction, and fiery sex.

Gray - the fear. White-knuckle suspense, creepy chills, and mind-numbing terror.

Orange - the mundane. The lazy days, gorging on chocolate, and napping on the couch.

All of them combine together into mystery, magic, and magnificent characterization. I am not just a romance writer or a fantasy author. All the colors reside within me. I am a storyteller.

What colors make up your imagination crystal?

Here's a little taste of violet and pink from me!

Loose Corset (Dice & Debauchery #1)

Blurb:
Geek girl Morgan Reid has been to many conventions, but none that had her wishing it would never end.

Dressed as their characters from the online game Steampunk Quest, Morgan and her best friend meet the other players for the first time in real life. Morgan's attraction to the gorgeous Dean Bradley is immediate, making it difficult to breathe in her tight corset. Even after a few dice shattering orgasms, she doesn't believe this can be anything more than a con fling. But Dean is making her feel things she's only read about in books. Can Morgan let go of her cool-headed logic and allow herself to fall completely for the perfect geek guy?

  1. I'm a bit of all of those, and I'd probably add a blue for what is beyond our world (science fiction, alternate world fantasies).

  2. I can totally understand what you mean about being the many colors of the rainbow. I am not black, white, blue, purple or just pink. I am all of them, a prizm kissed by sunlight and variety.

  3. It's a great read, Christine. Should have a review up for you shortly. I like comedy and silly. So pink here. I like bizarre and weird. What color is that? Green? Or is green for aliens? :) I definitely wear a lot of colors.

    1. Thanks so much! I like wearing all sorts of colors too. Thankfully speculative fiction covers a broad area!

  4. I'd be twilight for mystery and otherworldly. Love the way you broke this down, Christine. Congrats on your new release!

  5. Oh, did you know there's a word for this? It's called Synesthesia. It's when someone associates numbers or letters with colors.

    1. I had no idea it had a name! There's my new word for today. :)

What color would space be? Blue or black?

    1. Thanks! Maybe planets would be blue and space itself would be black.

  7. Love it. And hope that you add green for vibrancy - and growth. Your growth, your characters' growth, your readers' growth. And psychedalia (which should be a colour) for fun.

  8. Oh I am all about the blues with some green and purple and cranberry. Blues are for dreams and the mystical, greens are for growth, purple is just regal and cranberry is all about the wine

    1. *LOL* The cranberry is important! I should have brown for chocolate. Mmm... is that an acceptable dinner?

    2. Wine and chocolate-acceptable in my book

  9. I like Birgit's description. Hmm, black or purple for my dark fantasy and horror phase, and then purple to pick for my romances.

  10. That's neat, I'd never thought about stories in color before! I like your color/story descriptions.

    1. Thank you! The things I think about when I'm watching cartoons with my kid. :)

  11. I can easily visualise all of the above mentioned colour associations.
    Brown for me is steampunk.
As a reader I enjoy the full colour wheel. As per my own imagination, far too often it is a black void.
Geeky part (sort of): although I discovered D.C. and the dice world quite recently, being Italian, I grew up with Anime - I thought everyone had... until I moved to the UK...

    1. Ooh, brown for steampunk. Nice! My earliest experience with anime was Sailor Moon. But that's on the light side of it!

  12. Oh, I can relate to this so well, since my own storytelling is full of different colors, too! I tend to use a lot of the same colors you do. I'd also have to add blue for tragedy, though... :P

    1. Tragedy for poor Nicholas! Luckily he has a lot of us who want to hug him and make it better. :)

  15. But you didn't have blue! And that's my favorite. If I could be a color, I'd be turquoise :) Currently, my teenage daughter is red...she's mad about something and ranting! Hell hath no furry like a teenage girl in a red mood.

    1. Blue is my favorite too, but I was trying to stick to the picture! *LOL* Oh dear. I hope you survive the teenage girl in a red mood.

  17. Sometimes I don't think we have enough names for colors. I was driving cats once back from a spay neuter clinic, they were sleeping it off, and I was counting all the colors of green along the roadway home. Oregon sign green, which is deep evergreen but a little neonish. I just think there should be more names out there for all the colors in between.
