Silly Pets Communicating Serious Emotions about Writing (or not)

During this time of political unrest my writing has slowed, and my book promo has suffered. For a while, I was preoccupied with watching news and reading articles in a way I haven't done for years. In fact, nothing seemed as important as the state of affairs in the world.

That said, for the most part I have forced myself away from Facebook and other news sites at least until the day is over, and I have recommitted to the writing craft. The feeling that writing matters is seeping back into consciousness, and I'm happy about this.

As a result, yesterday I finally finished a draft of a novel that I've been working on for more than a year!!! Yay!!!

Without getting into political specifics, how has this election cycle affected (or not) your work? How is your work coming along, and what do you hope to accomplish this spring? This year?
Memes and silly pets communicating your messages welcome but not necessary. LOL.

  1. Like you, I save the news watching until the end of the day so it will disturb my sleep rather than my writing! What has actually been disturbing my writing is all the marketing I've been doing. It perplexes me, drains me, and frustrates me. I should save that until the end of the day too.

  2. Yes, Christine, I agree that marketing is perplexing, and draining. And I do want to see the cat video!

  3. Yay for finishing that novel! I've been too caught up in reading articles/Facebook posts about the election and what's going on since the inauguration. It's definitely hampered my writing as I'm too distracted and can focus less on getting the words down. I need to put the social media away until after I finish my writing.

  4. Congrats on finishing the novel. Facebook doesn't exist in my life, THANK GOD! :) I have enough to distract me without that.

    1. Wow, I am impressed. NO Facebook! Go, you!

    2. Long story, but it's more of a safety issue rather than a 'no media' issue. :)

  5. Yay on finishing your novel. I've been trying to live in a hole and am failing. What I hear scares me. I fear for where this is leading us as a nation. Writing is a great sanctuary.

    1. Writing IS a great sanctuary and comfort! On the other hand, I feel like I can't afford to be ignorant of what is going on. It's a fine balance.

  7. I'm pretty laid back, so the news hasn't hurt my writing too much. It's more everyone's reaction online that's distracting me. I'm at the point where I turn Twitter off if I want to get work done.

  8. I had to stop using facebook for a few days at a time because whew - the worst stuff going on there on some days. Writing is awesome - definitely a sanctuary.

  9. Love the memes. I definitely need to get back to writing. I've been busy with everything but, writing. I hope I can get some progress on my new WIP which stands at only 7K.
